Today the functions of photographs are limitless and photography provokes emotions, it seeks attention and amazes the viewers with beautiful images. Having that great impact in our lives, it is quite justified that we should know that how this art form took the place in human history as such kind of indispensable media. We cannot even imagine our lives now without photographs and this is the best way to keep our memories lifelong by capturing all our precious moments. There is a long history of photography, from a metal plate to print to digital form.
To understand the history of photography, we need to start by looking back at the 19th century.
Step by step growth
- Photography took a humble start when the specific term was coined by Sir John F.W. Herschel in the year 1939. This term comes from a combination of Greek words “photos” and ‘graphein’, it relates to the use of radiation or light to record the images. In that same year, a picture of a person was first produced by a French painter and photographer, Louis-Jacques Mande Daguerre. The first experienced of the photography can be traced back to the year 1827, when Joseph Nicephore Niepce, a French inventor made the first photographic image on the metal plate.
- Since that time, there have been the series of firsts in the history of photography. Men have captured successfully first war and lightning photo in the year 1847and the first color picture came in 1861. The early history of cinematography has started its journey in the year 1878 when the picture sequences were produced successfully.
- Varying from the human to nature and objects this art was used for almost everything.
- 1991 is a historic milestone for the photography world as the first digital still camera became commercially available by Kodak. From those days, there has been a great response and demand of such cameras soared. People are witnesses to the unceasing capabilities of different types of image capturing devices.
The history of photography will be never the same again with such development of the high-end portable and increasingly developed cameras. Now, everyone is a photographer and we are able to capture our every moment of life with high-resolution mobile cameras, DSLR and other devices with camera feature so the culture of photography is still growing and reached another level of success.
